About the event

How is the experience of childhood sexual abuse different for Vietnamese people in the UK? What are some phrases we can use to talk about childhood sexual abuse in Vietnamese in an intergenerational context? Join Sophia Luu (Secrets Worth Sharing Founder) and Rachel An Vu (bi-lingual psychotherapist) as they discuss. This work follows on from the podcast and video episode they did together last year.

1.00-1.15 - Icebreaker 

1.15 pm - 1.30 Intro and grounding, centering and talking about the Vietnamese experience

1.30-.2 pm - Part 1: We Listen to Elements of the Podcast and reflect on some challenges for talking about childhood sexual abuse in Vietnamese. Open up for questions and discussion

2.00-2.15 - Break and chance to buy Zines , as well as ask anonymous questions

2.15- 2.45 - Part 2: We equip people with positive messages about how to talk about childhood sexual abuse

2.45 - 3: Grounding Exercise and event close

ABOUT YOUR HOSTS

Rachel An Vu - Existential Psychotherapist (người tham vấn tâm lý trị triệu)

Rachel (she/her) is a bilingual psychotherapist in English and Vietnamese. Her expertise includes working with clients who experienced child abuse, sexual abuse, and clients who have been trafficked or suffered mordern slavery. Rachel's passion is helping clients explore life’s challenges and discover deeper understanding of who they are and their way of being in the world.

Sophia - Founder of Secrets Worth Sharing  (Người sáng lập)

Sophia (she/her) is a survivor of child sexual abuse and the founder of Secrets Worth Sharing, where she builds a community of having these difficult conversations with 'serious joy'.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Although this is a difficult subject matter, we always aim to keep our events lighthearted and approachable!
  • Food will be provided (light meals). There will be gluten-free and vegan options.
  • You do not have to have experienced childhood sexual abuse, or tell us that you have, in order to be welcomed fully into our events
  • You will never be asked to share your personal experiences unless you choose to share
  • There will be a 'quiet space' at the event if you wish to step away from the conversation at any time 
  • The event will be in both English and Vietnamese with translation available. 
  • We are arranging to have a photographer at the event, but you don't have to be photographed. We will ask you as you enter if you would like to be photographed or not
